Will I ever be wise?

In the original story the young monkey tried to grasp the moon’s reflection in a pool of water; this was of course impossible for when the monkey touched the water the ripples made the moon disappear. In this interpretation the now wiser older monkey, originally created by Hasegawa Tohaku in the 16th Century, keeps a watchful eye on a playful youngster who is once again trying to ‘catch’ the moon. The wise monkey is the Earth; the playful youngster represents humanity.
